Description
In the east end of Montreal, near the Jacques Cartier bridge, a whole sub-section of Montreal was torn down to make room for the huge CBC building. The area was known as Faubourg a M'lasse, from the sweet smell of the refineries that made molasses, the poor peoples' substitute for refined white sugar. The candy makers were also in the same area. The taverns, for men only, had opaque glass blocks as windows, to prevent onlookers, and wives , from looking in.
